Christiane Horwood is a family physician, who is from the UK and has been working in South Africa since 1996. She first came from England to work as a medical officer at the Charles Johnson Memorial hospital in rural KwaZulu-Natal, before moving to the Amatikulu PHC training centre where she worked for several years. During this time she was working with the KZN provincial PHC training team, her main role was in developing of training materials and undertaking training of PHC nurses all over the province. She also became involved in the implementation of Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) strategy, and ever since has worked nationally and internationally to develop the IMCI strategy further. 

Since starting at CRH in 2004 she has worked on projects on PMTCT training, neonatal care improvement, and a major evaluation of IMCI implementation. She was made deputy director in 2006. She completed her MPH in 2004 and in currently studying for her PhD in child health. Her main interest outside of work is riding her horse, Sassy.
