Associate Professor André Janse van Rensburg presented the MhINT Recovery Poster at the 7th Global Mental Health Summit held, from 10 to 12 November 2025, in Cape Town at the iconic City Hall.
This Summit brings together global leaders, researchers, policymakers, and people with lived experience to drive progress in mental health care. It’s a key platform for sharing innovation, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring mental health stays high on the global health agenda. For South Africa, participation highlights local achievements and ensures African voices help shape global priorities for equitable, community-based care.
The aim of MhINT Recovery is to co-develop a multi-level health system strengthening intervention to reduce re-admission following acute psychiatric hospitalisation among people living with severe mental health conditions in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
The MhINT Recovery research intervention uses a human-centred design which has the potential to lead programmes that are more effective, acceptable, and sustainable. MhINT Recovery is community-focused, requires minimal health systems resources, and is contextually relevant. The intervention is currently being tested in a randomised feasibility trial in the in uMgungundlovu, KwaZulu-Natal.
