Professor André J van Rensburg delivered an oral presentation at the 8th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR), from 18-22 November, in Nagasaki, Japan, on behalf of a multi-institutional research team. The presentation, “A human-centred design approach to the co-development of an inclusive, integrated, multilevel health system intervention for people with severe mental illness in South Africa”, reported on progress in the co-development of an intervention that aims to reduce psychiatric re-hospitalisation following discharge in KwaZulu-Natal. The HSR conference is a distinguished biennial platform for health systems and policy research, and around 2 000 researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from more than 100 countries attended this year’s event. The project, the Mental Health Integration Psychosis Support (MhINT PSYCHOSIS) programme, is funded by the National Institutes for Health (National Institute for Mental Health) and the Flemish Interuniversity Council.
