DASH

The Issue

Research Network for Design and Evaluation of Adolescent Health Interventions and Policies in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa face significant health challenges across nutrition, physical activity, sexual and reproductive health, and mental health, including exposure to violence. Limited population-level data and insufficiently targeted interventions hinder effective policy and program responses in the region.

The Intervention

The DASH research programme conducts rigorous, population-based surveillance, intervention, and policy research across eight African countries: Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. By combining robust quantitative and qualitative methods with local expertise, DASH generates actionable evidence across key adolescent health domains to inform context-specific interventions and policies.

The Impact

DASH strengthens the evidence base for adolescent health in sub-Saharan Africa, supports data-driven policy and program development, and contributes to the design of interventions that improve health outcomes across multiple domains for adolescents and their communities.
